Ria Keburia Foundation in collaboration with ARD Art Institution, Cairo, Egypt, is announcing an open call for the Artists-in-Residence program in Cairo in February 2024
The Ria Keburia Foundation, founded in 2018 by the Georgian patron of the arts Ria Keburia, aims to support development of the contemporary art scene in Georgia and the region of South Caucasus. One of the main goals of the Foundation is creating an ecosystem of international Artist-in-Residence programs and strengthening support and promotion of emerging and established Georgian artists.
ARD is an art institution founded by Hana El-Beblawy in 2022 and specializes in the field of contemporary art practices within the local and international art scene. Its focus is to create diverse programming with a wide range of activities inspired by the unique and challenging city of Cairo. ARD International Art Residency is a process-based artist residency that receives international artists from all domains in specially equipped studios to develop and present their artistic projects that will also intersect with the production of other parallel events of the exhibitions and workshops held in ARD, on an ongoing basis. Thus, art practitioners can test and develop their skills and experiences by living in a vibrant work environment, allowing them to experience constant contact with the public.
This opportunity is for an emerging or an established artist, based in Georgia, and offers a fully funded 1 month residency at ARD International Residency, Cairo, Egypt, from 1 February till 29 February 2024. Painters, ceramic artists, artists, working with textile, photographers, small scale sculptors are welcome to apply.
The program is focused on enabling artists to develop new works, network, and interact with art professionals in Egypt. Applicants should have a moderate level of spoken English. Applicants should submit a project proposal, outlining his/her specific research interest and intention for the residency.
* Please note that only the successful artist will be notified by 5 January 2024. Due to the expected high number of applications, we are unable to respond individually or provide feedback to unsuccessful applicants.
The Artist-in-Residence program offers artistic facilities such as:
• Exhibition space
• Technical support
• Artist assistant
• Contact to local art materials
• Opportunity for an end of residency period exhibition/open studio
• Public talks (Optional)
• Interactive sessions and studio visits with students, artists and guest critics (invited artists and curators).
• Access to artisans and craftsmen in heritage sites
The Artist-in-Residence program offers functional facilities such as:
• Airport meet and assist
• Shared apartment – Private room for accommodation (walking distance from ARD)
• Access to a private studio / workplace
• Shared common area for lunch and breaks
• 1 shared Kitchen (including a fridge, a microwave, an electric cooker, kitchen utensils)
• 1 shared bathroom
• Free internet
• Cleaning Service
Application Procedure
We accept digital applications only. Application should include the following in ONE PDF file and sent to the artresidence@riakeburia.com:
1. A cover sheet with name, contact address, e-mail and telephone number
2. A confirmation of availability from 1 February till 29 February, 2024, if selected
3. An artist's statement describing practice and areas of interest (up to 500 words)
4. A minimum of 10 images (or equivalent extracts from videos, sound work, etc) of recent work, with captions and a short description
5. A CV/Resume
6. A statement plans during the possible residency (this proposal can change during the course of the residency)
